El Charco del Aceite Recreational Area

El Charco del Aceite Recreational Area

In this recreational area, there is a pool of water forming a part of the course of the Guadalquivir river. It is a perfect place to take a refreshing swim in the summer, and a wonderful spot in which to spend a pleasant day at any time of year. The area has stone tables, wooden seats and a kiosk-bar. The landscape is very lush and surrounded by pine woods covering the sheer rock slopes surrounding the area. The cool waters provide a home for the king of the Nature Park’s rivers: the bold common trout, which is joined by autochthonous barbel, minnows and even otters.

Cueva del Peinero Recreational Area

This Area is set in the midst of an imposing geological formation that resembles a majestic cirque in one of the steepest and most rugged spots in the Nature Reserve. Its natural outlet is a spectacular gorge with the crystal clear waters of the Aguascebas Grande river running through it. The river descends in a succession of waterfalls between large rocks half hidden by the tumultuous water and spraying foam. When it comes to the Recreational Area, however, the river flows silently and sleepily between the dense vegetation of willows, poplars, alder buckthorns and box.

This small recreational area is situated next to an old forestry house at the foot of El Cambrón, a large rocky mass boasting almost vertical walls that rise above a sea of pine trees at the northern end of the park. The place’s name harks back to the days when bears roamed these mountains, up until the mid-eighteenth century. There is a spring with a strong flow, picnic tables, small meadows and beautiful walnut trees. This is the starting point for the ascent of El Cambrón along the PR-A 173 path, which is signposted.
