Génave, with a population little more than 600 inhabitants, pioneered the production of organic extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia. The international success of this exquisite product shows that commercial viability is compatible with environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The Sierra de Génave Co-op has an Organic Olive Growing Visitor Centre where visitors can learn more about the co-op’s experience and the traditional olive culture in this area.

From Génave, it is an easy drive to the easternmost foothills of Sierra Morena, where the landscape consists mostly of well conserved Mediterranean scrubland. To get there, go to the N-322 main road, cross it to get onto the A 6300 road, and go in the direction of Albaladejo. You will come to a couple of viewpoints that afford good views of a landscape that is completely different to the Nature Reserve. When you cross the Guadalmena river, you enter Castilla-La Mancha, not far from such attractive places as Villanueva de Los Infantes and the lagoons at Las Lagunas de Ruidera.
