Villa de Beas Visitor Centre: the 16th Century and Mysticism

In 1575, St Teresa of Jesus founded the convent of the order of the Discalced Carmelites in Beas de Segura, where some three years later St John of the Cross spent four months as a priest.

It was at the nearby monastery of El Calvario that he wrote part of his Cántico Espiritual (Spiritual Canticle). These historical occurrences are the basis of the exhibition at the Visitor Centre, where you will gain an insight into the key aspects of the mysticism of these two historical figures. The centre also has information on other aspects of Beas de Segura, such as its history, the symbolism of the bull, and local folklore.

Tel. (local council offices): 953 424 000. Visits must be arranged in advance.
