Control Viejo Recreational Area

This extensive area was recently constructed and affords magnificent views of the northern area of the Tranco reservoir. It is equipped with benches, picnic tables and a fountain.

It is interesting to notice the species used to reforest the recreational area and the environs. They are native plants of great ecological value, including maples, gall oaks and strawberry trees. In the summer of 2005, a dry thunderstorm discharged hundreds of lightning bolts here, causing a devastating fire throughout the area. The recreational area is now producing natural vegetation in a vigorous regeneration process. The area is a good example of how effective human action combined with nature’s natural ability to regenerate can be.
